Meet us

Amazonat Owners

Jacques started his professional career as resident engineer for an offshore company and ended it as a maintenance manager for a chemical company.  He then moved into the hotel business in Bonaire where he owned a hotel for many years before discovering his love for the Amazon and moving to Manaus to start the “Amazonat Project”.  His wife Cristina is a native of Manaus and holds the Amazon very close to her heart.  She holds a B.Sc. degree in tourism and is also a Master Chef who trains and oversees the Amazonat staff.  They have two daughters.

Jacques and Cristina believe guests’ visit to Amazonat and the Amazon should be special and they go out of their way to make sure this happens.   Read our guest book and see what our guests have to say.

Realization of the Amazonat Project would have been very difficult without the enthusiastic support of Dolf Huijgers, a former banker and now an active investor who is also an avid supporter of nature conservation.

Guides

Our trusted local guides lead all our excursions and have a thorough knowledge of the surrounding flora, fauna and native cultures.

He has a profound knowledge of the jungle, the use of its plants for medicines and survival techniques.  He is the guide we send you into the jungle with if you are interested in extreme jungle trekking. He is also very good at weaving with palm or cane, a beautiful craft but also very useful in the jungle.

Timothy is from Manaus and learned English from his Guyanese father.  He has been a guide for 17 years and 6 with Amazonat.  He is currently studying biology, specializing in ecology and botany while doing his thesis on sloths.  He is very knowledgeable about birds since they have been one of his hobbies from a very young age.  His eagle eye at spotting birds and sloth will surprise you.
