Citizens of USA and Canada need to obtain a visa to visit Brazil.

No immunizations, shots, inoculations or vaccinations are required to enter Brazil. It is best to consult with your personal physician to determine what vaccines or other medical protection you require. Please note that because of the low incidence of mosquitoes in Amazonat ecolodges malaria is not a problem. You should carefully weigh the benefits of taking prophylaxis for it versus its unpleasant side effects. An insect repellent may be all that is needed for extra protection.

U.S dollars are easily exchanged at hotels, banks, travel agencies and currency exchange offices. There are ATM machines at the Manaus International airport where you can withdraw up to 1000R$/card/day. At Amazonat you may pay with US$.

Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Brazil is the only Portuguese-speaking country in South America.
Most of Brazil has a current of either 110V or 220V with 60 cycles. Manaus and Amazonat have a current of 110V like in the US. The plugs in Brazil normally have two round pins, Amazonat has wall sockets that will accept both regular US and Brazilian type plugs. Brazilian conversion plugs, suitable for dual-voltage appliances can be purchased at many airports and electrical stores in Brazil.
